The representative of Sherpur said that since last Thursday night, continuous heavy rains and mountain landslides coming down from India's Meghalaya have trapped nearly 100,000 people in 17 unions of Sherpur district bordering India. Five people, including a woman and a teenager, drowned in the flood water. Locals said, continuous heavy rain started after 9 pm on Thursday. As a result of overnight rain, the water level of various rivers in the district rose above the danger level. The dams of these rivers are overflowing and the dams have broken in many places and the water of the river has entered the locality with great velocity. Houses, roads are all submerged since morning. People get disorientated by flash floods. Various educational institutions and healthcare institutions were submerged in water. At least 7 unions including Jhenaigati Upazila Parishad and Sadar Bazar were affected by flood. In addition to the hilly unions bordering Nalitabari upazila, other unions along the river banks and the unions in the lower areas were flooded. From Friday night, the intensity of water in the hilly rivers has reduced a little, but new areas in the low-lying areas have started to get flooded. At least 10 unions of this upazila were flooded.


Hatim Ali (30) and brother Alamgir (16) son of Bachir Uddin of Abhaypur village of upazila went missing in the broken water flow of Chellakhali river on Friday afternoon. The bodies of the two brothers were recovered from the paddy field of Kutubakura village around 4 pm on Saturday as the water receded a little. Similarly, Manik Mia's wife Omija Begum of Baghbed Balurchar village of the upazila drowned in flood water on Friday. In the evening of the same day, old Idris Ali drowned in flood water in Khalisakura village. Apart from this, the death of another person has been reported, but his name has not been found yet. Another person is still missing.


Meanwhile, the army, fire service, BGB and various voluntary organizations have been working since Friday to rescue the displaced people. On Saturday, the rescue operation of the people trapped in the flood was carried out with speedboats, boats, rafts, tubes etc. Apart from this, dry food and other food items are being distributed among the Banvasis. The upazila administration, BNP, student camps and various political organizations have participated in these activities. Meanwhile, people in the lower areas were seen running to safe shelter till Saturday afternoon. Some went to relative's house and some ran to shelters.


According to the Mymensingh Bureau, 80 villages have been flooded due to two days of heavy rains and landslides in Haluaghat and Dhobaura upazilas bordering Mymensingh district. Along with this, nearly lakhs of people of two upazilas have become waterlogged. Residents reported that the flood worsened on Saturday as well. The local administration has allocated 20 tons of rice for water-affected people of two upazilas.


It rained heavily for two days on Friday and Saturday in all the upazilas of the district. Various upazilas of the district have been flooded. Thousands of fish farms were washed away. Acre after acre of land is submerged under water.

A correspondent from Jessore said that most of the villages of 11 unions of the upazila, including Keshabpur Municipality, have been flooded due to heavy rains and overflowing rivers. As Madhyakul and Habaspole areas of Ward No. 7 of Keshavpur municipality have been flooded for almost a month, people have been forced to take shelter by building thick houses on both sides of the Jessore Chuknagar road at the risk of their lives.

This water could not be drained and now there is a terrible flood. 104 villages of the upazila were inundated due to flooding and about 40 thousand people became victims of waterlogging. Keshavpur's Upper Bhadra, Harihar and Buribhadra rivers are filled with silt and the water flow is obstructed. People are forced to take shelter on higher ground as water enters their houses. On Friday afternoon, in Keshabpur Madhyakul area of ​​Jessore-Chuknagar road, it was seen that around a hundred families have built houses on both sides of the road. Around hundred families including Abdul Majid, Enamul Hossain, Shahid Hossain have taken shelter on both sides of that road like Rahima Khatun. Many have come to the streets with their cows, goats and poultry.


The representative of Netrakona said that the water level of the main rivers in Netrakona continues to rise due to continuous rains and hill slopes. The Water Development Board is afraid of flooding again. Ubdhakhali in the district, the water of the Kangs river is close to the danger level. Due to this, the low areas along the river banks are about to be flooded. Several areas of Gaokandia and Kakairgara Union of Durgapur Upazila have been flooded. Rural road communication is closed.


District Water Development Board Executive Engineer Sarwar Jahan said that 200 mm of rain has been recorded at Jaria-Janjail point in Netrokona and 135 mm of rain in Durgapur in the last 24 hours. As a result of this rain, the water of Someshwari, Ubdhakhali, Kansa and Dhanu rivers in the district is rising. If rain continues, flooding may occur. However, the water of the main river is still flowing below the danger level.


Deputy Commissioner Banani Biswas said that although the water has increased in Durgapur, water has not yet entered people's homes. Relief materials were distributed in different areas in Durgapur on Saturday. In case of flood situation, there is comprehensive preparedness including relief and shelters.

The representative of Kurigram said that the water of the rivers and streams has started to rise again in Kurigram due to continuous rains and uphill slopes. Water levels in Brahmaputra, Dharla, Dudhkumar and Teesta have increased in the last 24 hours. However, the local water development board says that despite the rise in water, all the rivers are still flowing below the danger level.


According to the control room of Kurigram Town, the water level of Dharla, Dudhkumar and Brahmaputra continues to rise in the last 24 hours as per the report at 9 am on Saturday. At the same time, Brahmaputra water rose by 25 cm at Chilmari point and Dharla water rose by 4 cm at Setu point in the city. But it was still flowing 36 cm below the danger line.


Rakibul Hasan, Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board, said that despite the rise in the water level of the rivers, there is no forecast of flood in the district. Even if the water level of Brahmaputra increases, it is not likely to rise above the danger level. However, water levels in Dharla, Teesta and Dudhkumar are predicted to decrease.

The representative of Noakhali said that severe flooding has occurred again due to continuous rain in Noakhali. The district has recorded 124 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. Due to continuous rain, waterlogging has occurred in various public and private offices-court quarters, schools-college-madrasas, roads, district commissioner, police superintendent's bus building ground floor, district record room, etc. in Noakhali district city. The service aspirants have suffered greatly. Apart from this, roads and houses in eight upazilas of the district have also been affected by waterlogging. In this, 2 lakh 6 thousand 815 families have become watertight. Various areas including Sadar Upazila of the district were visited on Saturday, new flooding has occurred in the lower areas.


District Meteorological Office senior observer Arzul Islam said that 124 mm of rain has been recorded in the last 24 hours. A few more days of rain are likely under the influence of Monsoon.

Noakhali District Commissioner Khandaker Istiaq Ahmed said that the administration is working to resolve the waterlogging in Noakhali. In this, the district administration has taken the initiative to undertake various projects for water drainage. If the projects are implemented, people will be freed from waterlogging.


Chandpur representative said that due to the influence of active monsoon, the country's maximum rainfall of 277 mm has been recorded in Chandpur district in the last 24 hours. The rain that started overnight on Friday is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, various upazilas including Chandpur city have been drowned by record rainfall in Chandpur. Houses, mosques and educational institutions have been submerged in rainwater. More than two hundred people in several areas including Bishnudi Madrasa Road, Nazirpara of the city are waterlogged.


Chandpur Meteorological Office High Observer Md. Shoaib said that 250 mm rainfall was recorded in Chandpur district from 9 am on Friday to 6 am on Saturday. Which was the highest rainfall in the country. Out of this, 27 mm of rain has fallen from 6 am to 9 am today.


The Sirajganj representative said that the water in the Yamuna river is rising in Sirajganj due to continuous rain. However, the Water Development Board said that there is no danger of flooding even if the water level rises in the Yamuna. According to the sources of Sirajganj Water Development Board, the water level was recorded at 10.24 meters at Raksha dam point in Sirajganj city at 6 am on Saturday. Water rose 12 cm in 24 hours. In this, Yamuna water is flowing 266 cm below the danger level at the city protection dam point. On the other hand, at Meghai Ghat point in Kazipur, the water level was recorded at 11.88 meters at 6 am on Saturday. At this point, the water rose by 14 cm in 24 hours. In this, the water of Yamuna is flowing below the danger level at Meghai Ghat point by 292 cm. Nazmul Hossain, sub-divisional engineer of Sirajganj Water Development Board, said that the water level in Yamuna river has been increasing since Friday due to continuous rain. However, there is no danger of flooding in Sirajganj even if the water in Yamuna rises a little.
