Shoes worn on the pavement are very expensive now
In the 1980s, Afzal's father, Abu Bakr Siddique, used to sell shoes on the sidewalks of Gulistan. Afzal used to help him sell shoes on the pavement. However, in the course of time, he cheated people and now he is the owner of 'Afzal Sooz'. From the footpath of Gulistan now owns a shoe shop in Fulbaria Super Market. Apart from this, Afzal Syndicate builds 700 non-design shops in different places of the market including underground, elevators. The then mayor Syed Khokon was robbed of Tk 7 to 15 lakh per shop. A trade of crores of rupees has been done here. However, the shop owners paid money but did not get any valid ownership documents.

Afzal owns a shoe manufacturing factory at Dosaide in Ashulia called 'Famous Shoes Limited' jointly with Gulistan Hawkers Market Awami League President Nazmul Hossain. From where shoes are supplied all over the country including Dhaka's Gulistan. He did not think about the import of raw materials for making shoes under the bond facility when the Awami League government was in power. At that time, he had a lot of income from robbery. But now those incomes are collapsing and the bond is running for benefits. Businessmen are afraid of creating an uneven commercial gap with local businessmen if they get the bond license. There are allegations that Afzal wants to get bond license in the name of famous Suz by bribing the customs officials. However, the main condition for getting a bond license is 100% export. But this company supplies shoes in the country.

In 2008, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time in the 9th National Parliament Election.
