Members of 26 Ansar Battalion are trying hard to protect the Dampara or Naterkona Kalidas Dam by cutting earth and filling sacks with the villagers. But they could not save the end.
Local journalists and residents said that the people of Jaria, Ghagra and Dhalamulgaon unions of the upazila have become disoriented due to the dam breaking. If this situation continues, the homesteads, fish enclosures and crop fields of Netrakona and Phulpur and Tarakanda upazilas of Mymensingh under the control of the embankment may be submerged in water.
To save their lives, they are running away from home in search of roads and safe shelter. Some are trying to get out again with household furniture and essentials.
Meanwhile, members of the Ansar battalion are serving cooked food to those who have worked to protect the dam without eating all day. However, the locals are angry because no one from the local administration has inquired.
The executive engineer of Netrakona Water Development Board confirmed the matter. Sarwar Jahan told reporters that the water of Kangsa River in Netrakona is flowing 15 cm above the water level at Jaria Point today due to continuous rains and hill slopes. On the other side of the river, Khatuari, Letirkanda, Gangervera, Shunaikanda, Kapashia, Giriasa, Kochkhali and Ghagra Bazar of Ghagra Union of Purbadhala Upazila, Naterkona of Jaria Union, Debkanda and Charervita of Dhalamulgaon Union were in danger of collapsing.

After receiving the news, people of Water Development Board, Ansar forces of Zaria Ansar Camp and locals tried to control the water by cutting the ground and throwing sandbags, but to no avail. However, tomorrow (Monday) morning, efforts will be taken to repair the damage to the dam.
