Jumbangla Desk: Former Additional IGP of Police and Head of Special Branch (SB) Monirul Islam fled to Delhi, the capital of India . On Sunday (October 6) at around 9:30 pm, expatriate Bangladeshi investigative journalist Zulkarnain Sayer reported this information in a post with pictures on his verified Facebook.
With the photo of SB chief Monirul Islam, he wrote in a Facebook post, "Very reliable sources have confirmed the whereabouts of absconding SB chief (former) Monirul Islam." He caught Monirul Islam on camera while buying some daily necessities at a grocery store in Connaught Place, Delhi, the capital of India.
It is also known that a significant number of fugitive Bangladeshi politicians and members of the security forces are living in that area. As a friendly country, the Indian government should immediately find them and hand them over to the proper authorities in Bangladesh. I am drawing the attention of India in Bangladesh (High Commission of India, Dhaka) in this regard.
However, in this interview given to the media recently, Monirul Islam said that he did not run away, nor will he run away. He was in the country, he is in the country. Will stay in the country in the future.
More than 12 cases of murder and attempted murder have been filed against Monirul Islam in different police stations of DMP. On August 13, the new former head of the Special Branch (SB) of the police, Additional IGP Md. The government sent Monirul Islam into compulsory retirement.
It is alleged that Monirul took Tk 25 crore from the Sheikh Hasina government and kept it in his room on August 3 to suppress the anti-discrimination student movement. But before the money could be distributed, the government collapsed in a student uprising on August 5. Monirul did not go to the office from that day.
But some SB officials knew about the existence of 25 crore rupees in his room. Later some SB officials took that money to themselves. A committee of three members was formed to investigate the incident. Ghulam Kibria, DIG of Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBN) from Police Headquarters, was made the head of the committee.
