Jumbangla Desk: Hundreds of thousands of people in Sherpur and Mymensingh were affected by the terrible floods. They are spending their days in extreme suffering due to lack of food and clean water. Many farmers have lost crops and become destitute. There is an acute shortage of livestock fodder in the affected areas. From the report made by Independent TV, the details are highlighted:

The continuous heavy rains since last Thursday night and the hill slopes coming down from the upstream have caused flash floods in the bordering district of Sherpur. Locals said that after 1988, the people of Sherpur have seen such a terrible flood this year. Two lakh residents of Panch Upazila have suffered due to the subsidence of houses, roads and crop fields.

There is a shortage of food and clean water due to rising water in houses. Even after four days of flood, the people of Banvasi complained that they still did not get relief.

A local resident says that new areas have been flooded with rainwater since Saturday night. Most of the people in these areas have taken shelter in the roofs, ceilings and lofts of the houses.

A local resident who came to the shelter said that despite the flood for four days, they still have not received relief. So far eight people have drowned in flood water. Apart from this, many people are missing.

There is an extreme shortage of cattle fodder due to the flooding of pastures. In Mymensingh's Haluaghat, Dhobaura and Phulpur upazilas, 43,000 hectares of paddy land is now under water. Many farmers have lost crops and become destitute. 10 thousand 751 fish cages were washed away.

A local farmer said that his dreams and rising Aman crops have been drowned in water. Houses and houses have collapsed and washed away in various places. Educational institutions and government medical centers are floating in the water. Some shelters have been opened by the upazila administration in these areas, but they are insufficient. Cattle and goat food shortage has become acute.

The victims want public and private assistance to turn around anew. The agriculture department has assured the cooperation of the farmers by assessing the damage caused by this flood.

Deputy Director of Mymensingh Agricultural Extension Department. Nashrin Akhter Banu said, 'There will be no problem if the water recedes in those lands which are partially submerged in flood water. But we will seek assistance for those lands that have sunk to a greater extent.'
