Jumbangla Desk: The workers of Akiz Food and Beverage Limited protested by blocking the road and demanding nine points including job permanence, salary increase and weekend leave in Dhaka's Dhamrai. Later they went to the front of the factory and took position.
Workers protested by blocking the highway in Barbaria area of Gangutia Union of Dhamrai on Monday (October 7) morning. After about half an hour, the workers left the road and took position in front of the factory.
The workers said that for a long time the workers who were working on daily basis had been demanding from the organization for regularization. Besides, the workers wanted a monthly salary of Tk 15,000 and an opportunity to do daily duty. Factory authorities verbally assured them but did not accept the demand. Three months ago, the salary increase was announced, but the workers have not yet received the increased salary. Later today they started protesting with nine point demands.
The demands are to make the monthly salary 15,000 taka, to give half of the salary Eid bonus, to give duty to everyone every day, to make the job permanent based on the work efficiency, to give the company dividend, to give the night bill, to take the responsibility of the company if any worker is harmed within the company, Every department of the company should have safety arrangements and weekly holidays.
In this regard, several attempts were made to communicate with the factory authorities, but no statement was received.
However, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Industrial Police-1. Rezaul Karim said that the workers have made various demands. Their demands are being discussed with the authorities. The situation is calm and normal. Joint force members are present in front of the factory for overall security.
