The overall flood situation in Sherpur has improved, the suffering has not decreased

Jumbangla Desk: The overall situation of flood caused in Sherpur has improved due to continuous rains and landslides coming down from upstream. The water in four hill rivers of the district has started receding. The water of these rivers is now flowing below the danger zone.

However, water has increased in Brahmaputra, Dashani and Mrgi rivers. Although the water of these rivers is also flowing below the danger zone.

There was no rain in the district from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning. As a result, the overall flood situation has improved.

Meanwhile, 9 people have died so far in Nalitabari, Jhenaigati and Nakla of the district due to floods. Some are missing.

According to the information provided by the Sherpur Water Development Board at 10:30 am on Monday, the water in the Bhogai river in the district is 138 cm, the water in the Chellakhali river is 77 cm and the water in the Brahmaputra river is flowing 540 cm below the cut-off level. Apart from this, the water of two other mountain rivers Maharshi and Someshwari are also below the danger level.


Hasmat Mia and Rahim Sheikh, farmers of Bagber village of Nalitabari upazila, said that the flood situation in the district has improved but the suffering has increased. There is food shortage in flood affected areas. Relief activities have been started by the district administration. Relief is distributed by political and voluntary organizations including BNP-Jamaat, but it is less than required. Relief has not reached many areas so far.

 

Shariful Islam, who came to the shelter after losing his house in the flood, complained that even after four days of the flood, they still have not received relief.

Deputy Commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman said, we are trying to carry out relief activities everywhere. The army is fully cooperating in this work. Police, fire service, various voluntary organizations, businessmen have all come forward. Together we will be able to face this suffering.
