Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union-BFU (Part) election will be held on February 28, 2025. However, the election can be held before the mentioned date if favorable conditions are created.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Central Executive Committee, the highest policy-making forum of the BFU, on Saturday, October 5. BFU President Omar Farooq presided over this meeting held virtually (on Friday).
The meeting also decided to organize a representative meeting six weeks before the elections. BFU Acting Secretary General Sheikh Mamunur Rashid signed this information on Monday.
At the beginning of the meeting, the former general secretary of the divided Dhaka Journalist Union and president of the other part of BFUZ, Ruhul Amin Ghazi, expressed deep grief over his death and sought forgiveness for his soul.
The BFUJ also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the deaths of other late members of the Union recently.
Besides, deep concern was expressed over the harassment cases filed against more than two hundred journalists across the country, taking advantage of the changed political situation after August 5. Dr. Nobel Peace Prize winner for advancing independent journalism and fighting harassment cases. The current interim government led by Muhammad Yunus was called upon. More than half a hundred selected journalist representatives from all over the country participated in the meeting.
