International Desk: Maldives has made new rules to implement the protection policy of immigrants. Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has issued a directive for legalization or regularization of missing or absconding expatriate workers from various companies.

Application for cancellation of missing report can be made within 30 days in light of this instruction. After this period, the employer will have to pay a fee of 10,000 Rufiyaa (about 650 USD) to cancel the missing report. A fee of 1000 rupiah is required for a new missing report.
The ministry published the official gazette on Thursday (October 3). It is said that it will be effective from October 6.
The gazette also said that a fine of 2,000 rupiah will be imposed on the company if any worker runs away due to the company's negligence. Information regarding the identification of missing migrant workers from various workplaces located in the Maldives will be reported to the expatriate system from next week.
