Rainwater is entering most of the houses in Tangail's Bhuyapur municipality due to lack of drainage system. The main roads of the municipality along with the roads of most neighborhoods and the ground floors of houses have been submerged.

The residents of the city suffered when the continuous rain started from midnight on Thursday. Many people have suffered financially due to the sudden rainwater entering businesses and houses and destroying goods and furniture.

Meanwhile, the municipal authorities have not taken any steps to drain the water. Because of this, the locals have suffered greatly. They said that among the 9 wards of the municipality, the residents of wards 4 and 9 have suffered the most. They have suffered damage due to ingress of water into their homes and businesses. Business goods and household furniture were destroyed in the flash flood.

Giyas Uddin, a resident of Ghatandi village in the municipality, said that it was unplanned urbanization without any system of drainage system of the municipal authorities. It is causing waterlogging. We are in dire straits. My fridge and many pieces of furniture were destroyed.

Babul Mia of Foslandi village said that the canal which was the main reservoir of Bhuyapur city, has been filled up by dumping garbage from the municipality. Apart from this, various institutions and influential people have illegally occupied and filled the entire canal. The drainage system has completely stopped. Thus every canal in the city has been occupied and filled. The authorities did not take any action to rescue them. Due to their negligence, the ground floor of the house has sunk. Many things are lost in the water.

Kamal Hossain, a businessman of Bhuyapur market, said that there is no place for water to come out of the city. So water accumulates in the school and college grounds and enters the shops. The goods were damaged. This happens sometimes. But there is no one to see.

Saiful Islam, a resident of Ghatandi Uttarpara, said that we residents of wards 4 and 9 of the municipality pay the most tax. But the roads of these two wards are submerged in water throughout the year. And when it rains, the smelly dirty water of the drain enters the house with the rain water. We want to remedy this.

Several attempts were made to contact Bhuyapur Municipal Engineer Sukmal Roy on mobile phone but he was not available.
