Voting was held on January 5, 2022 in Noapara Union Parishad of Madhavpur Upazila of Habiganj District. Nurul Hasan, a popular member of UP who was elected twice, contested the election as a candidate for the post of member. By rigging the vote count, he lost by one vote.

The rival candidate Islam Uddin was declared the winner by a margin of one vote. The losing candidate filed a case in the Habiganj Election Tribunal requesting recount of votes.

The court ordered a recount of votes in the presence of both parties after a year and a half of various investigations. Counting of votes was re-counted in the courtroom of Senior Assistant Judge Sabuj Pal on September 25 last year in the presence of both parties.

After counting the votes, it can be seen that Nurul Hasan, who lost by one vote, won 533 crores. Long-term hearings, testimony of witnesses, verification of documents and documents proved the various inconsistencies of the officials involved in the election management and the vote rigging conspiracy beyond doubt. Election Tribunal Judge Senior Assistant Judge Sabuj Pal held the candidate declared winner by one vote, Islam Uddin, Upazila Election Officer Azharul Islam, Presiding Officer in charge, Assistant Presiding Officer and Fakar Uddin, assistant teacher of Ratanpur Government Primary School closely involved in the rigging, unquestionably responsible for taking action against them. The Election Commission sent a copy of the order to the Secretary.

The Judge of the Election Tribunal, Senior Assistant Judge Sabuj Pal expressed his surprise in the judgment and mentioned that the candidate who got 533 more votes was shown defeated by one vote. While human error in vote counting is normal, such a wide margin of vote is not normal.

The court clearly mentioned in its judgment that Fakhruddin Mamun, assistant teacher and polling officer of Ratanpur Government Primary School, colluded with presiding officer and upazila election officer Azharul Islam and defeated the winning candidate by a huge margin by taking shelter of extreme corruption on behalf of his close relative Islam Uddin. As a government official, he turned the government's promised fair election into a farce while performing election duties.

Appeal to Appellate Tribunal against the order of Islam Uddin Election Tribunal. Appellate Tribunal Judge Joint District Judge Mithila Islam and Additional District Magistrate Purvita Chakma upheld the judgment dated 25 September 2023 given by the Senior Assistant Judge Court in the appeal judgment on July 2. Against this verdict, the corrupt gang filed a writ petition in the High Court. When the High Court issued a status quo, Nurul Hasan approached the Supreme Court.

On Sunday, Supreme Court Justice Rezaul Haque upheld the verdict of the lower court after the hearing in the presence of both sides' lawyers. After a long legal battle, Nurul Hasan was finally declared the winner.

Along with that, Supreme Court Justice Matiur Rahman wanted to know why no criminal case has been filed against Assistant Teacher Fakhruddin, Upazila Election Officer Azharul Islam, Polling Officer, Presiding Officer and others involved in election robbery.

Aminul Islam, the lawyer of the declared winner, Nurul Hasan, told the court that a criminal and compensation case will be filed against Islam Uddin and the related parties in the next few days.

In this context, Aminul Islam said that by challenging the laws and electoral system of the state, the corrupt circle defeated the candidate who won by 533 votes by one vote. It is an affront to the law, the state and the constitution. On the one hand, they have financially damaged my client, on the other hand, they have defied the laws of the state. Islam Uddin took privileges from the state after winning through corruption and vote rigging.
