Ambergris worth Tk 21 crore recovered, a smuggler arrested

Monday (October 7) Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) captain Lt. Colonel Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed said that on Sunday (October 6) the BGB patrol team conducted an operation in Shahparir Dwip Bazarpara area based on secret information. The BGB personnel spotted a man with a sack as a suspect and arrested him.


8 kg 398 grams of ambergris was recovered from a bucket in a plastic bag held by the detainee. The market value of which is approximately 21 crore taka. Later, the properties of ambergris were confirmed by testing at the Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute.

 

The recovered ambergris has been deposited in the Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner's office and the arrested person has been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station through regular proceedings.
