Question: A few days ago my daughter gave birth to a baby boy. After the nurses put the grandson in our arms, there is no preparation for the Azan in his ears. Just then the call to Zohar prayer is given. We thought that the call to prayer in the mosque was enough and did not call him again.

The thing to know is, will the mosque's call to prayer be performed in the ears of the newborn? And in giving adhan to the ears of the newborn, is there a rule of turning the face to the right and left while saying - Haya Alas Salah and Haya Alal Falah?

Answer: It is a distinct sunnah to call azaan in the ears of a child after it is born. In the hadith, this adhan is said to be given near the ears of the newborn.

This Sunnah will not be fulfilled by the call to prayer. Therefore, even if the azan is given in the mosque, the azan should be given separately in the ear of the newborn.

There is a narration of Abu Dawud in the Sunan, Abu Rafi (RA) said - I saw the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) calling Hasan bin Ali (RA) after he was born, like the call to prayer in his ears. (Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith 5105)

The famous Muhaddith Mulla Ali Qari (RA) mentioned this hadith and said - This hadith proves that it is Sunnah to call adhan in the ear of a newborn. (Mirkatul Mafatih 8/81)

And the Faqeers said, it is better to turn the face from right to left while saying Haya Alas Salah and Haya Alal Falah, like the original Azaan, in giving adhan to the ears of the newborn.
