In a span of one day, the price of raw chilli has decreased by Tk 30 to Tk 40 per kg. Raw chillies are being sold wholesale at the port at the rate of Tk 170 to Tk 200 per kg depending on the type.

On the other hand, the price of onion has increased on the pretext of low import. In a span of two days, the price of onion has increased from Tk 15 to Tk 20 per kg. This information was known after going to the land port on Sunday (October 6) afternoon.

Salim, an onion trader, said, "Though I buy 2 to 3 trucks of onions every day from Hili land port, I bought only one truck of onions today. Because the price is too high. On Sunday, Indrajat onion is being sold at 88 taka per kg, South is being sold at 96 taka at Hili land port. But two days ago, the onion price of Indrajat was 75 taka per kg, South was 78 taka per kg at Hili land port. Indrajat's onion increased by 13 rupees. South onion has increased by 20 rupees per kg.

Another wholesaler of the port said, 'I came to the port to buy onions. Two days ago I bought Indra onion at 75 taka per kg, today the price of that onion is 90 taka. If the price increases by so much money, how can I buy, and how can I sell? I am going back without buying onions.'

About the increase in the price of onions, importer Mamunur Rashid Lebu said, 'Onions are mainly imported from various provinces of Nasik and Indra in India. The distance from here is about two to two and a half thousand kilometers. At present, due to the extremely hot and hostile weather, the import of onion has to be reduced compared to the demand. Moreover, the price of onion is constantly increasing in the places of India. Due to buying onion at high price, the price is affected at the port. Moreover, the balance comes out from each truck, which balance we have to dry in a fan in the warehouse and sell at that low price.'

According to Healy Customs, 703 metric tonnes of onions were imported from India in 25 trucks on two working days this week. At this time, 580 metric tons of raw chilies were imported in 59 trucks
