Having already said goodbye to Test cricket, now Mahmudullah's time is over in T20 cricket as well. He announced his retirement during the T20 series in India. In recent times, he has been under heavy criticism for playing slow in this format.

Mahmudullah played five dot balls in the over at a crucial time against Afghanistan in the last Twenty20 World Cup. Many saw the end of his T20 career at that time. However, his name was added as a surprise against India. But Mahmudullah failed here too, scored 1 run in 2 balls in the first match of the series, gave the wicket to the anointed Mayank Yadav with a quick bat.

After that, the rumors of his retirement started again. Finally, Mahmudullah himself said, 'I will retire from T20 after the last match of this series. I had decided this before I came on this trip. I talked to my family. I also informed my coach, captain, selectors and board president about the decision. I think it is the right time to move away from this edition and focus on what lies ahead in ODIs. For me and if I think about the next (T20) World Cup, this is the right time for the team as well.'

Mahmudullah's last T20 match in the Bangladesh jersey will be the third and final match of the series against India on October 12 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. Asked whether he has any regrets about his T20 career, he said, 'No, not a single drop.'

Incidentally, Mahmudullah Riyad made his T20 debut in Nairobi against Kenya on September 1, 2007. Since then, this star all-rounder has played 139 T20 matches for the national team in 17 long years. Along with collecting 2 thousand 395 runs with the bat, he also hunted 40 wickets with the ball.
