Locals said that heavy rains and landslides coming down from upstream caused extensive flooding in the area. Houses, crops were washed away and hundreds of pond fish were washed away. And those fish are caught in the net.

Going to Nayanikanda on Nalitabari-Nakla road, people are busy fishing with lines and nets. Fish of various sizes including Rui, Katal, Pangas, Silver, Karfu are coming up. After fishing for a while, those fish are being sold at the price of water.

Kalim Uddin of West Kapashia village said, he is a carpenter by profession. When his house was flooded by the flood water, he bought fishing nets from the market and has been fishing for two days. In two days, he sold fish worth 11,000 rupees. Shahjahan Mia of the same village sold fish worth 9 thousand rupees.

Municipal city Dr. Anwar Hossain said that he bought 39 kg of fish of different varieties including large cuttlefish, rui-mrigel for two thousand taka. The market price of which is at least 9-10 thousand taka.

Buyers are also happy to be able to sell fish standing in this place and buy fish at the price of water.

According to the information provided by District Fisheries Officer Pranab Kumar, only 2 thousand 57 fish in Nalitabari and Jhenaigati upazilas have been washed away. The fish farmers will lose at least 11 crore rupees.
