If Chittagong port management is handed over to foreigners, there is a warning of resistance

Secretary General of Bangladesh LDP and spokesperson of 12-party alliance Shahadat Hossain Salim has warned against giving the management of Chittagong port to foreigners.

Secretary General of Bangladesh LDP and spokesperson of 12-party alliance Shahadat Hossain Salim has warned against giving the management of Chittagong port to foreigners.

He complained and said, 'The Awami League government took the process of handing over the management of the most important New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port to a foreign company. In that process, the friends of the fascist government of Awami League benefited by corruption. But even though that fascist has fallen, his ideal still remains.'

Salim said these things in a notice sent to the media on Tuesday afternoon.

He said, 'The NCT terminal of Chittagong port is an income generating terminal. It has substantial investment in Chittagong Port's own financing. The terminal is being run smoothly by a domestic operator. At present there is no need for foreign investment and no opportunity for investment. During the last government's tenure, the terminal was given away to foreign companies. Even after the change of government, the henchmen of the former fascist government are still involved in the conspiracy to hand over the terminal to foreigners, relying on a particular quarter. The current government has to withdraw from here.'

Shahadat Hossain Salim said, "If the responsibility of managing the new mooring container terminal of Chittagong port is handed over to a foreign company, the workers working at the port will become unemployed and various complications will arise including labor unrest."

He said, 'At present operational activities are being conducted by domestic berth operator and terminal operator of Chittagong port. They have a long experience of 30-35 years in port management. They have domestic and international terminal management capabilities. Their experience and ability cannot be underestimated in any way.'

Secretary General of BLDP said, 'Recently, the Interim Government has discussed handing over the Neumooring Container Terminal to a foreign company. We strongly condemn and protest against it. We are not against foreign investment. However, instead of handing over the Newmooring Container Terminal to foreigners, they can build a new terminal through foreign investment elsewhere.'

Shahadat Hossain Salim said, "Who does the government want to benefit by leaving domestic companies at a loss and depriving domestic operators of business opportunities?" Shahadat Hossain Salim said, "The Awami League government wanted to give the responsibility of managing NCT to Dubai-based DP World. Now that the government is being represented by the same institution?'

Stating that the news has been circulated in the media, he said, 'During the Awami League was in power, an agreement was made with DP World under the influence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's advisor Salman F Rahman. It would have benefited Salman. As a result, if we do not withdraw from this anti-national plot immediately, we will be forced to give a political program.
