On the occasion of the death anniversary of BUET student Abrar Fahad, who was brutally murdered by BLA cadres due to his anti-India status, the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the 'anti-aggression eight pillars' has been laid at Palashi intersection in the capital.

Abra's Fahad Smriti Sangsad organized a memorial meeting at Palashir intersection in the capital on Monday. After the memorial meeting, Mahmudur Rahman and others laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the pillar with 8 plaques in memory of Shahid Abrar Fahad at Palashi intersection. At this time, Abrar Fahad's father, younger brother and other prominent people spoke.

Mahmudur Rahman, Acting Editor of Amar Desh Patrika, said at the memorial meeting that the martyrdom of Abrar Fahad is the turning point of our struggle against Indian hegemony for 54 years. We want to remember Shaheed Abrar Fahad even after a hundred years that he was an outstanding brave warrior. Abrar Fahad is the martyr of Titumir of this century.

Sarjis Alam, one of the co-ordinators of anti-discrimination student movement, said that the common room, guest room culture that existed in the halls of our university before the mass uprising of the students was a symbol of the brutal torture of each Abrar Fahad. We got a seat in the hall and rose to the fourth year. But the Adu brothers of Chhatra League were in a single room for 9 to 10 years. Where 40 of us had to stay in a four-person room, they were alone.

Abu Bakr Majumdar, another coordinator of the student movement, said that Shahid Abrar Fahad is a symbol of our sovereignty and a symbol of anti-aggression. Two things became clear through his murder. One of them is the torture of Awami League. The other is our struggle against Indian aggression.

Incidentally, in 2020, an anti-aggression memorial pillar was constructed at Palashi intersection. The plaque on the monument reads 'Ananta Mahakale Mor Yatra, Asim Kakasan Ante'. Abrar Fahad also used the quote on his Facebook profile.

The eight pillars were built to symbolize sovereignty, democracy, public protection, communal harmony, economic self-reliance, indigenous industries-agriculture and protection of rivers-forests-ports, cultural freedom and human dignity. However, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) demolished it the day after its construction.

Abrar, a resident student of BUET's Sherbangla Hall and a second-year student of electrical engineering department, was brutally beaten to death by Chhatra League leaders and activists on the night of October 6, 2019, due to his status on Facebook about the unequal agreement between Bangladesh and India and water encroachment. Later, the police recovered his body from the stairs of the hall at around 3 pm.

This incident caused a storm of condemnation across the country. A murder case was filed. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) filed a charge sheet on November 13, 2019 accusing a total of 25 people in that case. Then on September 15, 2020, the complaint was framed in the case. The court sentenced 20 of them to death. Besides, five people have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
