Former upazila chairman Aftab Uddin, the terrorist son of the late Zainal Abedin, the water lord of Howrah area, has been arrested by the district detective (DB) police along with two associates.
Sunamganj Superintendent of Police AFM Anwar Hossain Khan (BPM) confirmed this information to Jugantar on Monday. Aftab's accomplices arrested are- Aftab's nephew Sajal Siddiqui alias Sajal, son of timber trader Abdus Sahid of Kamraband village of Tahirpur, Amin Mia, son of Abdur Noor of Sohala village of upazila.
While Noha was fleeing by car, the DB police arrested three people including Aftab and two accomplices who were with him from Radhanagar point on Sunamganj Biswambharpur road on Sunday midnight.
Aftab is the son of late UP chairman Zainal Abedin, the water lord of Sohala village in Badaghat union of Tahirpur, Sunamganj, and the recently released upazila parishad chairman. Aftab Sylhet and Sunamganj, who fled abroad in multiple cases, former MP Ranjit Chandra Sarkar MP's smuggling business, extortion from boats loaded with sand and stone in the name of toll tax and cutting the river bank of the border magic, hundreds of dredger machines state resources of mineral sand and stone worth about 100 million rupees. A close associate in the theft case and joint convener of the Badaghat Union Awami League of the upazila.
On Monday Sunamganj District Intelligence Police OC Md. Aminul Islam and OC of Tahirpur police station. Delwar Hossain told Yugantar that apart from the sabotage case at Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station, several cases against Aftab including cyber crime at Tahirpur Police Station are pending in the court and there are at least five GDs.
Another member of the detective police operation said that Yaba addict Aftab, who is warranted in several cases, was intoxicated with his associates and fled on the road in Noha's car on Sunday around 1:15 am.
Aftab's nephew Sajal has been issued an arrest warrant by the court in several cases against the fugitive accused and another accomplice Amin, who is included in the charge sheet of the case filed under the Speedy Trial Act and the warrant for multiple cases.
Incidentally, after August 4, when the rule of the Awami League government ended, Aftab and his associates started giving death threats to some students of the anti-discrimination student movement. After that, four students of the anti-discrimination student movement filed a general diary (GD) in Tahirpur police station demanding to save their lives.
