Students of Jahangirnagar University (JAB) have detained 24 buses of Rajdhani Paribahan for beating and harassing four students.

Students started blocking the bus around 1:30 pm on Tuesday. The impounded buses are kept in the central playground of the university. At one point around 4 pm the bus authority came for discussion. Later the university administration released the buses on bond.

The name of the beaten student is Syed Muaz. He is a student of 52nd batch of finance and banking department of the university. Besides, three more students were harassed in this incident. Accused bus associate (helper) Md. Hannan and bus passenger named Tufan.

It is known that the four students were coming to the campus by bus from Mirpur-2 area on Tuesday morning. If the bus helper asks for rent, they pay 20 rupees as students. But the helper demanded 25 rupees rent. At that time, when the students said that the half-fare was only 20 taka, the bus helper started misbehaving with them and abused them by name of their parents. When those students introduced themselves as students of Jahangirnagar University, they also abused the university. When Muaz got angry and ran towards the helper, Hannan took out a stick from under the bus seat and started beating him. Later, a passenger named Tufan in the bus got into an argument with the students along with the helper and beat up the victim Muaz. At that time, when the three female students who were with Muaz went to protest, Tufan also harassed them and threatened them.

Meanwhile, the students of the university started to block the buses of the capital transportation after learning about the incident and the accused bus helper Md. He brought the bus to the campus with Hannan. Later, the bus authorities discussed with the administration and released the buses in the afternoon with a bond.

In this regard, the victim Syed Muaz said, we travel regularly. I pay 20 rupees as student fare. Today (Tuesday) the bus helper misbehaved after paying 20 taka. He abuses parents and campus. Later, when I came forward to know the reason for the abuse, he took out a stick and beat me. A man named Tufan along with the helper got angry hearing the student of Jahangirnagar, he also beat him. Those who were with me, if they tried to stop, they were also beaten.

Shamima Nasreen Jolly, assistant proctor of the university, said that the bus authority had come. The students made several demands to them. The bus helper who committed the crime has apologized to the students. And the bus authority said that the helper will be punished. Bail has been taken from them. And a complaint will be lodged at the police station against the passenger who beat up the student. If the person surrenders then the students will deal with it accordingly. If not, it will be a case.
