The government has constituted 'special task force' at the district level to monitor and review the market situation and supply of essential commodities.

According to the notification of the Commodity Price Review and Forecast Cell of the Ministry of Commerce on Monday, there will be two student representatives in this 10-member task force convened by the Additional District Commissioner of the district. Along with the assistant director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, there will be member secretary.

Besides, the other members of the task force are – Additional Superintendent of Police, District Food Controller or appropriate representative, District Livestock Officer or appropriate representative, District Fisheries Officer or appropriate representative, Agricultural Marketing Officer or Senior Agricultural Marketing Officer, CAB representative.

It also said that this task force will regularly visit various markets, warehouses, godowns, cold storage and other places of supply chain. Besides, it will monitor the matter of keeping the price of daily necessities at a reasonable level. The task force will also ensure that price differentials between the manufacturing, wholesale and consumer levels of the product are kept to a minimum. And will hold a discussion meeting with all the concerned parties.

According to sources, after the daily monitoring, the task force will send a report to the Commodity Price Review and Forecast Cell of the Ministry of Commerce and the Central Control Room of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection. The Directorate of Consumer Affairs will review the reports received from various districts and report to the Ministry of Commerce by 7 pm every day.

Incidentally, there has been instability in the commodity market for a few days. In the span of a week, the price of eggs per dozen has increased by Rs. Where last week a dozen eggs were being sold at Tk 160, this week every dozen eggs are being sold at Tk 170. 20 to 25 rupees per dozen increased in the span of three weeks. Some online platforms have seen eggs being sold at Rs 180 per dozen. Besides, pepper was sold at the highest price of Tk 400 per kg in the retail market on Sunday, which was Tk 180-220 a week ago. The prices of other vegetables also increased in the market. This week the price of vegetables has increased from Tk 20 to Tk 60 per kg.
