Junayed Al Habib (22), a member of the anti-discrimination student movement, died after being stabbed by former Chhatra League leaders and activists at Marjal in Narsingdi. He died under treatment on Monday evening, 9 days after the stabbing.
Meanwhile, when news of Junaid's death spread, tension spread in the area from Tuesday morning. Relatives of the deceased and locals came down on the streets. At around 11:30 am, they set fire to tires at the Morjal bus stand on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and demonstrated. At that time they blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
At one stage, the agitators attacked, vandalized and set fire to the shop of local Awami League worker Badal. After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

The family members said that on September 28 Junayed was stabbed at Batiara intersection of the upazila by some people led by former Chhatra League leaders Swadhin and Piyal. Junayed was rescued and sent to Dhaka Medical. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for 9 consecutive days. As his condition was critical on Monday afternoon, the doctors advised him to be admitted to the ICU. As the hospital's ICU was not vacant, he was taken to Green Life Hospital in the capital. He died on Monday evening while preparing for admission there.
In this incident on September 30 Junaid's uncle. Shafiq filed a case in Raipura police station accusing 14 people including Swadhin and Pial as the plaintiff. Police later arrested one person.
The family claims that the former activists of the local Chhatra League stabbed Junayed for taking part in the student movement.
