Jumbangla Desk: The interim government's chief advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus called on Spain to increase bilateral trade and investment with Bangladesh, saying, "In the past years, resources have been looted from Bangladesh, so increasing bilateral investment and trade will help restore the economy."

He made this call when he went to Dhaka on Wednesday to pay a courtesy call on the Spanish ambassador Gabriel Sistiaga to the chief adviser. The meeting was held at the office of the Chief Adviser.

The ambassador asked the chief adviser how Spain could use its experience to help Bangladesh's ongoing reform efforts.

Prof. Yunus thanked Spain for this proposal and said, "We will welcome any kind of your cooperation in the important areas where Bangladesh is trying to reform."

The Chief Adviser stressed the importance of providing assistance in reform activities, especially in the health care sector and infrastructural investment of Bangladesh Railways.

Professor Yunus addressed the ambassador and said, 'Spain can help us in many ways. They can increase investment here and increase our import of apparel products.'

He also mentioned that Bangladesh will benefit if Spain gets some assistance in the development sector.

Dr. Yunus said that about 60,000 Bangladeshis are currently working in Spain. He urged the country to hire more workers in both technical and non-technical sectors.
Ambassador Gabriel Cistiaga handed over a letter from the President of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, to Professor Muhammad Yunus as he assumed the duties of Chief Adviser to the Interim Government.

On behalf of the President of Spain, the Ambassador invited the Chief Adviser to participate in the International Conference on Financing for Development to be held in Spain from 30 June to 3 July 2025.
Prof. Yunus asked the ambassador to convey his greetings to Queen Sofia of Spain and recalled the memories he had with him during the Queen's various visits to Bangladesh.

He invited the queen to come again to Bangladesh.
