The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the name of the winner from Stockholm, Sweden on Thursday (October 10) at 5 pm Bangladesh time.

Last year, Norwegian author and playwright Jon Fosse won the Nobel in this category.

The Nobel Prize winners are announced on the first Monday of every October. This year, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was inaugurated by announcing the name of the Nobel Laureate.

The names of the Nobel Prize winners in various categories will be announced by October 14. Meanwhile, last Monday (October 7) Nobel laureates in medicine, October 8 in physics and October 9 in chemistry were announced. On October 11, the names of the Nobel Peace Prize winners will be announced.

The world's most prestigious prize, the Nobel Prize, has been awarded since 1901. The award is named after the Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel.


This 19th century scientist made a fortune by discovering the powerful explosive dynamite. He bequeathed that all his money should be awarded annually to persons who have made special contributions to physics, chemistry, medicine, peace and literature. Since 1969, economics has been added to these five departments.

This year's Nobel laureate will receive a Nobel medal, a certificate and 1.1 million Swedish krona. Its monetary value in Bangladeshi currency is about 12 crore 80 lakh taka. In categories where there are multiple Nobel laureates, this amount will be divided equally.
