Ahead of the upcoming IPL auction, there has been a change in the cricketer retention rules. So Chennai Super Kings are getting an opportunity to retain Dhoni as an uncapped (domestic) cricketer for less money. And the franchise is using that opportunity. That is, Dhoni is playing in the yellow jersey in the upcoming tournament.

However, nothing has been confirmed from Dhoni or the franchise so far. However, a source confirmed to Indian media outlet Michael that Dhoni will play in the IPL. The former captain of India will play for Chennai in the upcoming tournament as well.

BCCI is preparing for mega auction ahead of 2025 IPL. No date or venue has been set yet. However, the buyout event may be held in the last week of November. Teams are now busy with player retention in the wake of the auction. As per the latest approved rules, teams will be able to retain up to six players from the 2024 squad. Five of them are capped, one is uncapped.
