Jumbangla Desk: The Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad has demanded a judicial inquiry into the performance of Islamic music at the Pujamandap event stage at JM Sen Hall in Chittagong city. And in this incident, Sajal Dutt, joint general secretary of the metropolitan committee, has been expelled.

This information was informed in a joint statement of Bangladesh Puja Udjakar Parishad President Shri Vasudev Dhar and General Secretary Shri Santosh Sharma.

The statement given on Friday (October 11) said that the people of the Hindu community have been deeply hurt by this unexpected incident.

The Puja Parishad is demanding a judicial inquiry into the incident and identification of those involved and exemplary punishment.

They said that the government, army, law enforcement, political parties and student society should work together and resist the miscreants.

The statement also said that the Puja Udjakar Parishad has already dismissed the president and general secretary of the Chittagong Metropolitan Committee for failing to perform their duties properly and expelled the joint general secretary of the Metropolitan Committee Sajal Dutt for failing to properly manage the cultural program.

Meanwhile, the police have so far arrested two artistes in connection with the performance of Islamic music in the worship hall of JMsen Hall.

Police said the music was performed there at the request and invitation of a leader of the puja celebration committee.

In a press conference at Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner's office, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Raich Uddin said that Puja Committee Joint General Secretary Sajal Dutt requested a group of artists from Chittagong Cultural Academy to perform at the event. In response to his request, at the time of the incident, a member of that organization, Shahidul Karim, Md. Nurul Islam, Abdullah Iqbal, Roni, Golam Mustafa and Md. Mamun came to the puja and performed an Islamic ghazal and a baul song.
