There is increasing volatility in the market. While there is hardly any shortage in supply, prices of most commodities are on the rise. The prices of various vegetables have increased within a week. There are no vegetables below 100 rupees.

Not only that, the price of green chillies is fluctuating up to Tk 400, onion has to be bought at Tk 110 to 115 per kg. The price of chicken and fish is already high. When going to the market, which one to buy and which one not to buy, ordinary buyers are disappointed. The lower-middle class is concerned about the market price of the damadol of the government's pot change.


Talked to a government employee named Jasim Uddin in Matikata market of the capital. He said, 'As the price is out of reach, I have already stopped buying fish and meat. Now I see that we have to stop buying vegetables. We would not have had a problem if the salary had also increased along with the increase in the price of daily commodities.'


Titu Rahman, a businessman from the same area, told Jumbangla on Friday morning, 'Yesterday I went to buy vegetables with Tk 500. When I heard the price, my eyes were full. All vegetables except two are priced above 100 rupees. Not even a small bag was filled with what I bought.'

The sellers say that not only the capital Dhaka, but the whole country, the price of vegetables has gone up. Vegetables have started growing in advance of winter but supply is low in places. They say that the supply of vegetables has decreased due to floods.


Several markets of the capital were visited on Friday, but the prices of vegetables have increased, but the prices of eggs and onions are slightly lower than last week. Only four vegetables are available below 100 rupees. These are papaya, patol, radish and radish. Papaya is being sold at Tk 50-60 per kg. Apart from this, Patol, Dhyands and Radish are 60-80 Tk per kg depending on the market.


Most of the vegetables are being sold at Tk 100-140 per kg. These include vegetables like eggplant, cabbage, bitter gourd, shrimp, chichinga, dhundal. The price of these vegetables is not falling below 100 rupees.


Vegetable retailers say that the price of these vegetables has increased by Tk 10 to Tk 20 per kg compared to last week.

Consumers' uneasiness has increased with the price of green chillies for several weeks. It is being sold on Friday at the price of Tk 280 to Tk 340 depending on the market. Sometimes it goes beyond 400 rupees.


Imran Master, president of Bangladesh Wholesale Raw Material Dealer Association, told the media that rain is unusual in some parts of the country. Several areas of northern region are also flooded. As a result, the vegetables are getting spoiled in the field. The supply in remote locations has also decreased significantly. That's why the farmers in the production areas are now charging comparatively higher prices.


Meanwhile, egg prices have fallen in the last three days on news of import initiatives and duty cuts. Eggs were being sold at Rs 160 per dozen on Friday, which had gone up to Rs 180 earlier in the week.

However, the price of broiler chicken did not decrease at this time. Still a kg of broiler is being sold at 180-200 Tk. Golden breed chicken is being sold at Tk 260 to Tk 280 per kg.


Onions have started arriving through the country's ports as India eases export conditions. Still, onion is being sold at Tk 110 to 115 per kg.
