The sellers say that not only the capital Dhaka, but also in the production area, the price of vegetables is high. Vegetables have started growing in advance of winter but the supply is low in places. They say that the supply of vegetables has decreased due to floods.

On Friday (October 11), several markets in the capital were visited, but the prices of vegetables have increased, but the prices of eggs and onions are slightly lower than last week. Only four vegetables are available below 100 rupees. These are papaya, patol, radish and radish. Papaya is being sold at Tk 50-60 per kg. Apart from this, Patol, Dhyands and Radish are 60-80 Tk per kg depending on the market.

Most of the vegetables are being sold at Tk 100-140 per kg. These include vegetables like eggplant, cabbage, bitter gourd, shrimp, chichinga, dhundal. The price of these vegetables is not falling below 100 rupees.


Consumers' uneasiness has increased with the price of green chillies for several weeks. It is being sold on Friday at the price of Tk 280 to Tk 340 depending on the market. Sometimes it goes beyond 400 rupees.

Imran Master, president of Bangladesh Wholesale Raw Material Dealer Association, said that rain is unusual in some parts of the country. Several areas of northern region are also flooded. As a result, the vegetables are getting spoiled in the field. The supply in remote locations has also decreased significantly. That's why the farmers in the production areas are now charging comparatively higher prices.

Meanwhile, egg prices have fallen in the last three days on news of import initiatives and duty cuts. Eggs were being sold at Rs 160 per dozen on Friday, which had gone up to Rs 180 earlier in the week.

However, the price of broiler chicken did not decrease at this time. Still a kg of broiler is being sold at 180-200 Tk. Golden breed chicken is being sold at Tk 260 to Tk 280 per kg.

Onions have started arriving through the country's ports as India eases export conditions. Still, onion is being sold at Tk 110 to 115 per kg.
