The Nobel Committee has informed that this recognition has been given to Han. He will be given 11 lakh Swedish crowns (11 lakh American dollars) by the Academy of Sweden for the award. More than 9 crores in Indian currency. The award will be officially handed over to Han on December 10 in Stockholm.

Han was born in Gwangju, South Korea in 1970. His father is also a prominent writer. Poetry is the handiwork of literature. Five of his poems were first published in 1993. Among them was the poem 'Winter in Soul'. The poem was published in the winter issue of Munhak-Gua-Saho (Literature and Society). The next year in 1994, Haner became a novelist. That same year, he won the Sol Shinmun Spring Competition. His first collection of short stories was published in 1995. That collection was called 'Yosu'. In 1998, joined an international writing program at the University of Iowa for three months. Han was supported by the Arts Council of Korea.


After that, he published short story collections like 'Fruits of My Woman' (2000), 'Salamander' (2012). His pen also gave birth to novels like 'Black Deer' (1998), 'Your Cold Hands' (2002), 'The Vegetarian' (2007) and 'Breath Fighting' (2010). Hahn won the Booker Prize in 2016 for 'The Vegetarian'. He received the Médicis Prize in France in 2023 for his latest novel 'I Do Not Bid Farewell'.

In Han's writings, the mental and physical sufferings of human beings have come up again and again. Han repeatedly explores the impact of historical events on people's lives. After that he highlighted in his writing. There the suffering of the individual and the collective became one. The context of his 'Human Act' written in 2014 is such a historical event. In 1980 many people lost their lives protesting in Guangzhou. Students were among them. That horror, violence, resistance came out in 'Human Act'.
