Science and Technology Desk: National Identity Card (NID) was introduced more than a century ago. The images that were used then do not match the current images of many. In order to change the photo or update the information of the National Identity Card, one has to first go to the website of the NID department of the Election Commission (https://services.nidw.gov.bd/registration) and register. When accessing this website, due to the https format, in many cases, the text 'This Connection is Untrusted' may appear in the Firefox browser. In that case click on 'I Understand the Risks'.

After clicking 'Add Exception' and then clicking 'Confirm Security Exception' the site will open. Now you have to complete the registration process by entering the necessary information. Log in by entering your card details and the activation code received on your mobile. Updating the information in the information change form and printing it. Signing the printed form and submitting the scanned copy online. Submitting the color scanned copy of the required documents online after logging in and clicking on “I want to fill the registration form”. Clicking here will open the form. Now fill the form.

NID number should be entered to fill the form. If the NID number is 13 digits then the year of birth must be given first. For example, if your card number is 1234567891000 and your birth year is 1990, you should write 19901234567891000. After that, date of birth, mobile number, email address, current address (select the division district upazila/ police station as given by the voter) and permanent address (select the division district upazila/ police station as given by the voter).

Now login password (must be 8 digits with upper case letters and numbers like: NIDhelp2020). After placing them correctly fill the captcha and click on the 'Register' button. After correct and successful registration, the verification code will be sent to the mobile. The box will open to insert the code. Enter the code in the box and click on the register button. Wait maximum two minutes to get the code.

(If the code is not received on the mobile within 2 minutes, click on Send code again (SMS). After entering the code correctly, your account will be activated and the option to login will appear. Then login. To login, enter your National Identity Card number (if it is 13 digits, then your birth year first) You have to select how you want to get the verified code with the date of birth and the password you have given.

If the registered mobile number is at your hand, select the mobile number, if not, select the email. Now login by putting the verified code from your selected option mobile or email. Now see all your databases with your Election Commission appear in front of you and click on any of the following options as per your need and update the information and change many things including changing your national identity card photo.
