Jumbangla Desk: Bangladesh Police Inspector General (IGP) Md. Moinul Islam NDC said, this year's Durga Puja was very challenging. Many have expressed apprehension about Durga Puja. We assured you before the start of the puja; Puja will be celebrated peacefully. This time Durga Puja is being celebrated with much grandeur.

The IGP said this while visiting the capital's Banani Pujamandap on Friday night.

He said that the constitution recognizes the right of people of every religion to practice their own religion. Except for a handful of criminals, the people of Bangladesh are peaceful. We are on the side of peaceful people. The police are determined to bring the criminals under the law.


In response to a question from journalists, the IGP said that Durga Puja is being celebrated in more than 32,000 pujamandaps in the country. There have been isolated incidents, in each of which we have taken action. So far 11 cases and 24 GDs have been registered out of 35 untoward incidents. 17 people have been arrested in these incidents.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Mainul Islam along with senior police officers and Banani Pujamandap management committee leaders were present along with the IGP.

Later IGP visited Durga Puja Mandap in Bashundhara and Uttara and exchanged greetings with the worshippers.
