Jumba Bangla Desk: The gold crown of the statue gifted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been stolen from Jashoreshwari Kali Temple in Shyamnagar, Satkhira. The theft happened on Thursday (October 10) at noon. CCTV footage of the temple shows a youth stealing the crown. Prime Minister Narendra Modi placed the crown on the head of the Kali Pratima during his visit to Jashoreswari Kali Temple in 2021.

The Indian High Commission has issued a message on Friday (October 11) expressing deep concern over the incident of theft. It said, 'We express deep concern and request the Government of Bangladesh to investigate the theft, recover the crown and take action against the perpetrators.'
It is known that after the daily puja, the priest Dilip Kumar Banerjee went home with the key to the Sevayat Rekha Sarkar of the temple. At that time devotees including Rekha Sarkar were present in the temple premises. The theft happened between 2:47 and 2:50 on Thursday afternoon.
Sebayet Rekha Sarkar said that after the puja, he went to wash the puja utensils in the tube well next to the temple. I came back after only 1-2 minutes and saw that the crown of the mother's head was missing. Later I told the matter to everyone present in the temple.
Satkhira Superintendent of Police Monirul Islam said that a young man has been identified in the CCTV camera. Law enforcement forces are conducting an operation to arrest him and recover the gold crown.
