Two days of rain in September exceeded the annual average and caused flooding in several areas of southeastern Morocco, meteorological agency officials said in early October. Tagauni, a village about 450 kilometers south of the capital Rabat, recorded more than 100 millimeters of rain in a 24-hour period.

NASA satellite images show that the bottom of Lake Iriku between Zagora and Tata has been dry for 50 years. That lake is getting full.

"We have had so much rain in such a short period of time, not 30 to 50 years ago," Hossein Ouabeb, an official at Morocco's meteorological agency, told The Associated Press.

He said, meteorologists call this type of rain extra tropical storm. This indicates that the weather conditions of this region may change in the coming months and years. Because the air has more moisture, it increases evaporation and creates more storms.

The length of Africa's Sahara is 4,800 km. It is the world's largest hot desert, spanning a dozen countries in North, Central and West Africa. Many of these countries are experiencing frequent droughts as extreme weather events increase due to global warming. This has led scientists to predict that similar storms may occur in the Sahara in the future.
