Zoom-Bangla Desk: Fish and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar said that the price of eggs will decrease soon. He said that due to various measures taken by the interim government to set the price at a tolerable level, the price of eggs will soon decrease. He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a function organized by Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) at Farmgate in the capital on Friday on the occasion of ' World Egg Day-2024 '. The event was jointly organized by Department of Livestock Services (DLS), Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council, World's Poultry Science Association Bangladesh Branch (WPSA-BB) and Bangladesh Chapter of World's Poultry Science Association.

Referring to the abnormal increase in the price of eggs, he said, 'Many poultry farms across the country have been affected by the recent floods, which has ultimately affected the overall production and supply of eggs.'

Emphasizing the need to declare eggs as an essential food ingredient, he further said, 'Women should be encouraged to run poultry farms at the village level to increase production. Besides increasing production, it will also make them economically stronger. Therefore, it is necessary to take all necessary steps to bring back the system of poultry rearing in rural homesteads.

He said at the time, 'The supply of vegetables in the country during the month of Ashwin-Kartika has decreased significantly due to which the demand for eggs has increased drastically and the prices have also gone out of reach.'

Referring to the storage of surplus eggs in cold storage when the demand is low, he said, 'We can supply the stored eggs later when there is a huge demand. However, in the name of conservation, eggs will not be allowed to be stored in any way.'
