Jumbangla Desk: Four people have been arrested by the detective police in the case of theft of gold crown from Jashoreshwari Kalimandir in Shyamnagar, Satkhira.

The arrested are temple priest's assistant Apurva Saha (37), Sanjay Biswas Saju (40), cleaner Rekha Rani Sarkar (42) and Parul Biswas (41).

Earlier on October 11 at 2 am, Jyoti Prakash Chatterjee filed the case against unknown persons in the Shyamnagar police station as the plaintiff on behalf of the temple management committee. DB Police has been given the responsibility of investigating the case.

Plaintiff Jyoti Prakash Chattopadhyay stated in the statement of the case that Jashoreswari temple is a place of pilgrimage. Their ancestors have been managing the temple since 1809. In 2021, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi placed a gold water-painted crown on the head of the goddess during her visit to the temple. The value of the crown weighing about 30 tons is about one lakh taka.

The case affidavit also mentions that priest Dilip Banerjee holds the keys of the temple. But sometimes the priest hands over the key to Rekha Rani for cleanliness. In such a situation, on October 10, while serving the devotees, Rekha, the cleaning worker, accidentally went outside while opening the key of the temple. Later the unidentified persons removed the crown from the goddess's head and ran away.

Fakir Taijur Rahman, Inspector (Investigation) of Shyamnagar Police Station said, DB is investigating the matter after filing the case on Saturday night. Meanwhile, they have arrested four people for questioning. Efforts are on to identify the youth in the CCTV footage.
