The operation is underway in the river in coordination with the fisheries department, upazila-district administration, police and coast guard. Such operations will continue for 22 days of the ban. However, legal action will be taken against those who disobey the law and go to the river.


Fishing in the river has been stopped since midnight on October 13 to preserve Jatka and mother Hilsa. It will continue till November 3.


The government has banned all types of fishing in the Meghna River from Ramgatti Alexander in Laxmipur to 100 km in Shatanal area of ​​Chandpur. This 100 km Meghna river area has been declared as a hilsa sanctuary. During this time, all kinds of hilsa storage, extraction, transportation, marketing and stockpiling are prohibited.
