Zoom-Bangla Desk: Two crores worth of hilsa has been sold in a single night due to the sale of some fish in Madaripur. The sale went on from Saturday evening to midnight yesterday. Traders say that Hilsa fair was held at Puranbazar Fish Market, Mustafapur Fishery and Tekerhat Port of Rajair Upazila. This arrangement was made as Hilsa fishing and marketing will be closed for the next 22 days. Due to this reason, there is a rush to buy hilsa.

It has been reported that since yesterday evening, the sale of hilsa has started in Puranbazar area, the main commercial center of Madaripur. In this, the businessmen sit and arrange hilsa pots of various shapes. When this news spread to the public, buyers also appeared. Along with men, the crowd of women was also eye-catching. When the night was late, there was no place to store whole fish and sesame in the market. The whole market turns into a fair in the presence of people who come to buy fish. Buyers said that the price of hilsa is higher than last year.
Masud Akand, who came to Puranbazar to buy fish, said, ' Hilsa fish will not be available for 22 days. So now I have come to buy fish. But last time one kg of hilsa was 1200 to 1400 taka, this time the hilsa is over 1900 taka. That is why I am buying only 5 kg of hilsa. Otherwise I would have bought more.'
Anwar Hossain said, 'If I had known earlier, I would not have stayed late for this night. Now the price I bought hilsa is more than before. People are rushing to buy fish. I'm coming too, now I don't buy anymore after seeing the price. I will not make this mistake in the future.'
It is known that this year the supply of hilsa is relatively less, so the sellers have charged higher prices. The same picture was in Tekerhat Port and Beparipara Junction of Rajour Upazila and Mustafapur Fishery. Hundreds of maunds of hilsa were sold there as well. Although there is mixed reaction from the buyers about the price, traders said that at least two crore hilsa was sold in the district in one night.
Puranbazar hilsa fish trader Sujan Burman said, 'Ma hilsa conservation campaign will be busy from 12 o'clock on Saturday night. So I am selling all the hilsa that I had in my collection. Because the stock of fish cannot be kept. Buyers are coming, we are also selling. But the price is a little higher this time than last time. That's why there is trouble with buyers.'
Madaripur Puranbazar Fish Traders Association President Moshalem Uddin said, 'Hilsa fish is sold every year on the night before the prohibited period. All fishmongers sell hilsa from evening till 12 midnight. About one to one and a half million hilsa is sold in this year. And in Teherhat, around one crore hilsa is sold. But we do not trade any hilsa during the reserved time.'
