Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed said, I will not contest again. I will not do it in any seat. I have made that decision. Because it's better to delegate when you have time. Today I bring my eldest son before you. He studied in America-London. He has been teaching in the university for the past 20 years. His wife also teaches at Dhaka University.

He announced this on Saturday night while exchanging greetings with the Hindu community at the Banikpara Pujamandap of Dharmapur Union in Satkania, Chittagong.

At this time, senior politician Ali Ahmed introduced his son Prof. Omar Farooq Sani as a party candidate in his constituency Chittagong-14 (Chandnaish-Satkania part). Sunny is a presidium member of LDP. Apart from Banikpara, Oli Ahmed presented his son as a candidate in the mandaps he visited in the upazila.

During the exchange of greetings at the pujamandap, Ali Ahmed showed his son and said, 'You are thinking, who will be my replacement? Who will shade you? He (the boy) will serve you. As long as I live, I will not leave you.'

He said, 'It is better to hand over responsibility at the right time. In the meantime, if he makes a mistake, I can fix it. I entrusted my son with the responsibility of being by your side in happiness and sorrow.'

Oli Ahmad asked the leaders and activists to raise their hands asking whether you can take responsibility for my son. The leaders and activists present raised their hands and promised. After that he said, I have not come to this area for 15 years. Because when I came, those who came to meet me were arrested and sent to prison by the then dictatorial Hasina government. I did not want to endanger the leaders and workers.

LDP President said during the visit to the Pujamandap, "The liberation war has nothing to do with Sheikh Hasina's family. During the liberation war, Sheikh Mujib was in Pakistan and Sheikh Hasina and her family were sheltered by the Pakistani army. At that time we fought and made the country independent. And the Awami League tells the story of the spirit of the liberation war, can these be accepted?'

He said, 'Sheikh Mujib did not declare independence. I was first asked to declare independence. Major Ziaur Rahman was my senior then. That is why I requested him to read the Declaration of Independence. I still have his proof, you can see it if you want.'

He also said that a tainted chapter of Hasina's dictatorship has come to an end with the student uprising on August 5. Now if anyone tries to disturb the harmony, he will be handed over to the law. In any need, you will have me, my son and LDP leaders by your side.

Chittagong South District LDP General Secretary Golam Kibria Shimul, Vice President AGM Shahjahan, Satkania Upazila General Secretary Jasim Uddin, Chandnaish Municipality President Ainul Kabir, North Satkania General Secretary Hossain Uddin Bhutto and others were present.

Incidentally, Oli Ahmad was a founding member of BNP. He also served in the Ministry of Communications. In 2006, he left BNP and formed LDP.
