Three people were killed and at least 20 were burnt when a cylinder exploded while taking gas in a bus in Lakshmipur. The doctor said that the condition of 10 of them is critical. The accident happened at Green Life filling station in Muktiganj area of Lakshmipur municipality on Sunday (October 13) around 2 am. The incident spread panic in the area.
The deceased are Sumon Hossain son of Charmansa Batumia of Bhabaniganj Union of Sadar Upazila, Sujamiya son of Banchanagar area. Yusuf Mia and Hriday Hossain. They were said to be drivers of CNG-powered autorickshaws.
The injured are Sumon Hossain, Md. Rocky, Mohammad Fahad Hossain, Siraj Mia, Md. 20 people including Hridiya, Shanto Khan and Abdul Malek were burnt to death. As the condition of 10 of them is critical, they have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The injured are said to be bus and CNG drivers.
According to eyewitnesses, a bus named Meghna Parivan, bound for Lakshmipur-Ramgatti, came to the Green Life filling station to take gas. At that time, while giving gas to the bus, suddenly the cylinder of the bus exploded. The CNG drivers at the station started running. Three CNG drivers died on the spot. At least 20 others were injured.
Later, two units of the fire service and the police reached the spot and recovered the bodies of the three victims and sent them to Sadar Hospital morgue. The injured were rescued and admitted to Sadar Hospital. Later, as the condition worsened, the seriously injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Others are being treated at Sadar Hospital.
Ranjit Kumar, Station Officer of Laxmipur Fire Service, said that after receiving the information, the dead and injured were rescued and taken to Sadar Hospital. Three people died on the spot. The gas cylinder of the bus was of poor quality. The cylinder explodes while taking gas in it.
Lakshmipur sadar hospital doctor Dr. Zainal Abedin said, three people died on the spot. We did not get a chance to treat them. About 20 people are injured. Among them, some of the hands and legs of 10 people have been almost severed. In addition, various parts of the body were burnt. Most of the patients have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
