The description of the wealth of former MP Rimon of Barguna-2 (Bamna-Betagi-Patharghata) area, who is known as religious in the area, will raise one's eyes. Locals question how he became the owner of huge wealth in five years. The ACC now has more wealth information than the information in the election affidavit given by him. According to the complaint, he owns 604 acres of land. It is also described as having huge assets including plot flats. Talking to the common people of the constituency, it is known that he used to buy disputed land when he was an MP. After buying it, he used to abuse the power and occupy it. If someone dared to protest against him, he would be harassed. Beat the case. The former MP could not be reached even after trying to talk about the allegations. All social media communication apps including his mobile phone were found closed.

From UP Chairman to MP

Full name Shawkat Hachanur Rahman Rimon. He was once the Chairman of Raihanpur Union Parishad of Patharghata. Then upazila chairman and finally MP. His father Khalilur Rahman was the president of Patuakhali District Peace Committee during the liberation war of 1971. Khalil had a history of shooting many freedom fighters like birds. The trial as a war criminal is still ongoing. In 2001 when BNP was in power, Rimon was the number one accused in the case of the attack and looting of the Kakchira police outpost in Patharghata. At that time, Awami League, the liberation war party, stood by him. In 2004, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took him to the party in a party rally in Kakchira, Patharghata. The local Awami League and freedom fighters protested about this. But nothing happened to him. These protests continued from the time he was given party nomination to the tenure of MP. Although he did not get nominated in the last 12th National Parliament election, he got the title of MP three times in a row before that. A leader of Patharghata Upazila Awami League said, 'Barguna-2 constituency is basically the base of religious-fearing voters. There is also a record of candidate of Islamic movement becoming MP here. Razakarputra Rimon kept himself in religious garb all the time.

Falsification of affidavit

Awami League leader Golam Sabur Tulu was MP in Barguna-2 constituency. In 2013, when he died in a road accident, Rimon became an MP for three months after receiving the nomination of Boat in the by-election. Since then, the key to his fortune began to turn. He was also nominated in the 2014 general election. He became MP again without voting. In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission that year, he submitted an account of assets totaling 11 crore 57 lakh 60 thousand 753 rupees. However, the amount of wealth shown by him when he participated in the 2013 by-election was less than half of that. How his wealth doubled in just three months after becoming an MP was as surprising as it was in the 2018 election affidavit that he gave birth to another surprise in terms of wealth. This time his wealth is two and a half times more. Moreover, the details of the two affidavits filed in the two elections have also been caught in a lot of confusion. In 2014, showing an income of Tk 54 thousand for house rent, Rimon's income in this sector stood at Tk 1 lakh 84 thousand before the 2018 elections. Although the income has increased more than 3 times, he did not give any information about owning a new house or apartment in the 2018 affidavit. In 2014, the amount of money deposited in his bank was 15 thousand 946 taka. In 2018, it increased to 1 crore 15 lakh 15 thousand 906 taka. The amount of cash increased from 8 crore 7 lakh 11 thousand 683 to 15 crore 6 lakh 83 thousand 640 taka. Similarly, in the vehicle sector, Rimon, who had movable assets of Tk 4 lakh 10 thousand, became the owner of vehicles of Tk 80 lakh 43 thousand 282 in 2018. Apart from this, the amount of his land increased from 6 acres to more than 10 acres in a span of 5 years. In the affidavit, the former MP is also accused of concealing the information of many assets.

Accused ACC of concealing information about huge assets including 604 acres of land

After the fall of the government, a complaint was filed against Rimon in the Anti-Corruption Commission on September 19. In it, he has been accused of concealing information about the ownership of 604 acres of land and other assets. Zakir Hossain, a resident of Nachnapara area of Patharghata upazila filed the complaint. He told Jugantar that Rimon and his family have huge wealth beyond the affidavit filed with the nomination papers. I have proof of that. During his tenure in power, he has misused his power in various ways including embezzlement of government property, tender trade, recruitment for bribes, gold smuggling. It has motorcycle and car showrooms in Dubai. A boy from Patharghata looks after those businesses. He built his house-flat and business by smuggling hundreds of crores of rupees earned through corruption to Dubai.

In the complaint filed against Rimon with the ACC, the assets alleged to have been concealed, including document number and registration details, include 2 plots of land in front of Patharghata Sadar Hospital, a market in front of Kakchira Police Station, an ice mill in Barisal, 2 houses in Dhaka's Uttara Sector 7 and 10. And several other plots and flats including 4 khata land in Dhaka Mirpur Housing. In the complaint, the complainant Zakir has given all the documents and registration information of the ownership of a total of 604 acres of land in the name of Rimon and his family. ACC has already started preliminary investigation based on the complaint.

Verbal harassment case

Hachanur Rahman Rimon was good at beatings from the beginning of his political life. He also has a record of pouring human excrement on women's heads in the name of arbitration. Patharghata Upazila Sramik League leader Mostafizur Rahman, district Tanti League president Idris Chowdhury, Bamana Union Awami League former general secretary Chunnu Shikdar and many leaders and workers of his party have complained of being beaten and assaulted by him. Rimon was desperate to maintain sole dominance. Rimon once installed a CCTV camera in front of the house of Nadira Rahman, who became the last Awami League MP in Barguna-2 constituency. He used to harass them by seeing who came to that house on the CCTV camera. Nazrul Islam, a fishmonger of Patharghata, was beaten up in front of hundreds of people in a packed majlish for not giving side to Rimon's convoy on the road. In 2020, Priyanka Mitra, a minority woman and her family's house in Patharghata's Chardwani area were vandalized. A case was also filed in the court accusing him of carrying out the attack in the dispute over land occupation. Taijul Islam, assistant engineer of roads and highways, was beaten by him that year. Earlier in 2017, Patharghata Upazila Health Complex Treasurer Nurul Islam was assaulted. In 2014, in an arbitration meeting at Gaharpur in Patharghata, Rimon found a woman guilty and ordered her to be beaten with shoes and human excrement poured on her head. Later the punishment was executed in his presence. At that time, there was a commotion across the country about this incident and various women's organizations joined the nationwide movement. However, Awami League nominated him again in 2018 as an MP. After that, the people of the area had to endure his torture for five years until 2014. Several leaders of Barguna district Awami League said that this former MP has been in hiding since August 5. Not communicating with anyone in the area. The mobile phones of his family members are also switched off.
