Jumbangla Desk: A trawler carrying hundreds of Rohingya was floating in the deep sea, the purpose of which was to travel to Malaysia illegally. Despite the risk, that dream did not come true. The brokers involved in human trafficking have dropped hundreds of men and women from various Rohingya camps in Ukhia to Malaysia at Inani Beach.

Law and order forces arrested 26 Rohingyas from Inani in Jaliapalong Union of Ukhia on Monday (October 14) morning.

Local eyewitnesses said that around 4 am, they were surprised to see hundreds of Rohingyas suddenly coming to the locality after crossing the sandy beach.

It is reported that at least 70 Rohingyas moved to other places on this occasion. Later the police came and arrested 26 people staying at the lake with the help of locals. who are currently in custody at the Coast Guard Station.

Rezaul Karim, in-charge of Inani police outpost, confirmed the matter and said that legal measures are under process in this regard.

Among the detained Rohingyas is Khursida Begum (24), a resident of Rohingya Camp No. 17 in Ukhiya. He said, "We were traveling by trawler from Teknaf to go to Malaysia, but the Myanmar Navy blocked it while crossing the water limit. The sailor turned the boat and came here and we stayed in the sea for 10 days.

According to a report published in the media in 2023 citing the police, from 2016 to October of that year, 1,134 people were rescued by sea from Malaysia, most of them Rohingya. During this period, 85 cases were filed against 1,200 people and 508 traffickers were arrested in Ukhia and Teknaf police stations.
