Jumbangla Desk: The special task force of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate has fined 1 lakh 9 thousand taka to 8 companies for various irregularities including manipulation in increasing the price of vegetables by raiding the Dhaka metropolitan area to keep the prices stable. The members of 6 teams led by 7 officials of the Directorate conducted market surveillance activities in different areas of Dhaka city on Saturday (October 12) and fined them.

On this day, apart from Dhaka city, all departments and districts of the country, market surveillance activities were conducted with the aim of keeping the prices of daily essential products stable and supply normal, including vegetables, eggs, broiler chickens, potatoes, pulses, onions, garlic, ginger and edible oil.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Director of the Dhaka Divisional Office of the Directorate in the Dhaka Metropolitan Area. Under the leadership of Abdus Salam, raids were conducted in Karwan Bazar and Banani Khacha Bazar. During the operation, it can be seen that the vegetable truck arrives at Karwan Bazar at around 12 o'clock in the night, but these vegetables reach the wholesale stage after being transferred from the truck 6 to 7 times. There are about 1,200 illegal fariya traders, who have no license, receipt book or stock register.


In the campaign, the involvement of the dealers in increasing the price of goods is evident. Besides, the issue of increasing the price of goods by wholesalers, wholesalers, retailers all at the same time with the connivance of traders also came up in the campaign. Later, in Banani raw market, the shop allottees from Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) are renting the allotted positions for Tk 25,000 to 36,000 instead of doing business themselves, which is also playing an important role in increasing the price of goods in the retail market. A total of 1 lakh 9 thousand taka was fined to 8 companies during the operation for this crime.

It is to be noted that 87 companies were fined a total of Tk 447,000 in the market surveillance campaign conducted by 42 teams of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection in 36 districts of the country on Saturday. Representatives of various public and private departments and organizations under the task force along with the district and upazila administrations were present during these separate operations.
