Jumbangla Desk: The bank account of former member of Parliament and singer Mumtaz Begum of Manikganj-2 constituency has been seized. Along with this, instructions have been given to cancel the use of any locker facility in his name. Besides, the account of his privately owned company has also been asked to be suspended.

On Monday (October 14), Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), the country's central financial intelligence agency, sent a letter in this regard to all banks and financial institutions. An official related to BFIUthor confirmed this information.

According to the letter, if any account is managed in the name of the mentioned person and his privately owned company in the branch of the bank, the transaction of those accounts has been instructed to be suspended for 30 days under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012. Also, if there is any locker facilities in his name, it is requested to cancel his use.


The letter also said that besides suspending the transaction, all the documents related to the bank account of the mentioned person such as account opening form, KYC and transaction statement should be sent to BFIU within the next two working days.


After the fall of the government on August 5, the top leaders of the Awami League and the ministers and members of parliament went into hiding. Singer Mumtaz is one of the former MPs in hiding. He was last elected as Member of Parliament of Awami League in 2018 elections.


Meanwhile, after more than two months, Mumtaz came to the public on Sunday (October 13) afternoon. He posted a video on his verified Facebook page.
