Jumbangla Desk: The bank accounts of Ekatar Television Chief Editor and Editors Guild President Mozammel Haque Babu along with his wife and children have been seized. The bank accounts of the companies owned by them have been asked to be suspended.
Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of Bangladesh Bank has sent instructions in this regard to banks and financial institutions of the country on Monday.
The letter states that all transactions of the person whose account has been frozen and their sole proprietorship business account will be suspended. They will not be able to do any kind of transaction for the next 30 days. Apart from this, the period of suspension of transactions will be extended if necessary.
According to the BFIU's letter, relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will apply to this order to suspend transactions. The letter contains the names, addresses and national identity cards of Mozammel Babu, his wife Aparajita Haque and their child Sababa Ishaat Haque.
The BFIU directive further states that the account related information or documents such as account opening form, KYC and transaction details should be sent to the BFIU within two working days from the date of issue of the letter.
Earlier on September 16, Mozammel Haque Babu was arrested on his way to India through Dhobaura border in Mymensingh. At that time, he was arrested from a private car in South Maijpara area of Dhobaura on the border. According to the police, he was detained by local people in the Indian border area. Later, police arrested Mozammel Babu in Jatrabari police station's Arif and Rafiqul Islam murder case.
