Jumbangla Desk: Two more scanners have been introduced to check passengers' luggage at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Through this, the long-term suffering of passengers has been greatly reduced, as well as the security system of the airport has been more integrated, the authorities claimed.

Talking to passengers and airport officials, it is known that 34 foreign airlines are operating commercial flights on 52 different routes of different countries from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Different flights are flying at short intervals. There were three scanners in the arrivals or 'Agmani' belt (the entrance after landing at Shahjalal by plane). If many passengers come together, it would be difficult. Due to the efforts of the authorities at the airport, the passengers got their bags quickly but had to be stuck in the customs checking area. Passengers used to go from 30 minutes to an hour and a half behind the checking. Also a lot of luggage would have gone out without being scanned. Many dutiable and taxable goods, even illegal shipments of gold, were allowed to enter the country due to lack of proper screening. As the government lost a huge amount of revenue, it was also a security risk.

But there was no crisis of scanning passengers at the 'exit' or departure belt. You have to pass there by scanning 100%.

According to airport customs authorities, two more scanners were installed at the airport last month. They have started working 100%. As a result, now all passengers' baggage is going out after 100% check.

They also said that the scanner has been installed along with the belt at the third terminal. There will be no need to place the baggage separately in the scanner. Similarly, installing scanners in Terminal 1 and 2 belts would have provided more convenience to the passengers.

Airport Customs Joint Commissioner Al-Amin said, our aim is to ensure 100% passenger service. To work for them so that they do not suffer in any way. For this purpose we have installed two more scanners. One is placed in the first green channel, another in the second channel. As a result, there are now three scanners as another one is connected to the first green channel. The other is combined with the second channel for a total of two. A total of five scanners are active. As before many baggages were allowed to go out without checking due to lack of scanners, now that is not the case.

According to Customs sources, 3 scanners are working for arrival belt number 1 to 4 and two for belt number 5 to 8.

In response to a question, Al-Amin said, "We have a manpower shortage in scanning work." Still we are trying.

There are 6 gates for passengers at the beginning of the exit belt of the airport. 4 of them are open. Two gates number 2 and 5 are closed. 3, 4 and 6 are always open. Baggage scanning of VVIP, VIP and CIP passengers is done through gate number 6. Baggage scanning has been arranged through these 6 gates.

Next to the exit belt are 5 check-in rows for boarding passes. Emirates in the row of this number; Row B has Qatar, Saudi and others, United Air in C, Bangladesh Biman in D and Malaysia Airlines in E. These rows also have security measures.

Then there are two places for passenger immigration. Besides, there is another for the use of transit and crew, during Hajj season it is also used for immigration work.

There are 8 boarding bridges for boarding the aircraft at the last stage. These are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, extended 1 and extended 16. Passengers board the aircraft through it.

Shahjalal Airport Executive Director Group Captain Kamrul Islam said that our concerted effort is to ensure that passengers do not have any complaints about Shahjalal Airport. That is what we are trying to do.

A former officer of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) responsible for security at Shahjalal Airport (on condition of anonymity) said, "We always informed the authorities about the security lapses from the beginning." It is a good thing that they are being filled gradually. However, there are several security flaws. I hope that these small matters will be fulfilled gradually.

Solaiman of Madaripur, a passenger who recently came from Oman, said that the luggage came to the belt after the flight landed. At the same time, I took the luggage from the belt, scanned the customs and got out easily. Earlier it would take hours to get to the belt. After that, we had to stand in line to take the luggage to the scanner. Now they are gone. Everything is working without any problem.

Asad of Shariatpur, another passenger from Oman, said the luggage arrived within 20 minutes. There are now three scanners on the green channel. There wasn't even a big line. I came out quickly. Source: Bangla Tribune
