Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture said that the program is starting on Tuesday (October 15). Mohammad Emdad Ullah Miah said, for the first time, we are going to start selling perishable products like potatoes, eggs, onions, potal at different points of the city to give relief to the people of fixed income.

He also said the government will sell some vegetables at subsidized prices to low-income people as part of a pilot project in the capital.

In the opening ceremony of the program at the office of the director general of the food department on Tuesday, the advisor of the Ministry of Agriculture Lt. General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce. Salehuddin Ahmed, Secretary of Commerce. Salim Uddin and Secretary of Agriculture Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Miah is expected to attend.


The Agriculture Secretary said that the sale of potatoes, eggs, onions and potatoes will be inaugurated in front of the director general's office of the Food Department on Tuesday at 11 o'clock on Abdul Gani Road. Potatoes will be sold at Tk 30 per kg, eggs at Tk 130 per dozen, onions at Tk 70 per kg and green vegetables at least 20-30 percent less than the prevailing market rates.

The official added that the ministry will directly collect perishable items such as potatoes, eggs, onions and potatoes from farmers and sell them through OMS at specific locations in the city. At least 20 locations have been set to sell the items for the next two weeks and if the pilot project is successful, the number of sales points and days will be increased.

Earlier on Sunday, the chief adviser of the interim government at the official residence of the chief adviser. The decision was taken in a special meeting between Muhammad Yunus and other advisers, the Ministry of Agriculture said. It said that the Agricultural Marketing Department, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will provide necessary support in implementing the decision.
