Jumbangla Desk: Two Metrorail stations were attacked during the anti-discrimination student movement. Two stations were closed due to extensive damage. The then Awami League government said that it would take a year to renovate and reopen these stations and would cost hundreds of crores of rupees. Questions then arose about the cost and timing of such 'unusual' renovations.

When the Awami League government was ousted on August 5, the new interim government quickly arranged for the two stations to open. Of these, Kazipara station was launched on September 20. Tomorrow Tuesday (October 15) Mirpur-10 station will be opened.

Out of this, Kazipara station initially cost 22 lakhs to renovate and open it. The cost of commissioning Mirpur-10 station has increased slightly. However, Mohammad Abdur Rauf, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the managing company of Metrorail, answered how it was possible to open the two damaged stations in such a short time and at a low cost.

In a press conference on Monday (October 14), he said that some equipment has been purchased from the domestic market for the affected stations. Some of the equipment that had to be imported has been brought from relatively less frequented stations and installed at the affected stations. Also some of the equipment kept at the Metrorail depot for demonstration and training has also been used.

The managing director of DMTCL said that instead of reorganizing the entire management of the station, earlier it was listed which equipments were damaged and how they could be repaired or restarted.

He said that some metro rail stations are less crowded. Such as Uttara South, Uttara Center and Vijay Sarani. Although they have fewer passengers, proper equipment has been installed for the year 2030. Some tools have been brought from there. I saw there are six machines. Three have been brought from there. Replaced damaged items on affected stations.

Stating that some equipment has been refurbished in a domestic way, he said, some products, such as computers, have been bought from the local market. The glass used in metro rail is fire resistant. Can survive fire for up to two hours. They are brought from India. There we brought Nasir's tempered glass and installed it. But our station has a control room, where all the systems are. Later we will bring fireproof glass there.

Mohammad Abdur Rauf said that no money will be taken from the government for the renovation of the station. He said that we will not take the money spent from the new government. We will spend the running profit we have already allocated for our project.
