Nazrul Islam Swapan said, our situation is improving. People are making huge deposits in EXIM Bank. We have also sought liquidity assistance from Bangladesh Bank. I have already received liquidity assistance of 1000 crore rupees. If liquidity assistance of Tk 350 to 400 crore is available, it will be more beneficial.

In this regard, the spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank Husne Ara Shikha said that the process of providing liquidity assistance is ongoing.

Exim Bank entered into an agreement to merge with Padma Bank under the name of Sabol Bank despite its weak financial condition. After the formation of the interim government, former chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder's mismanagement and corruption emerged. Even banks that are prone to corruption have created a large-scale liquidity crisis.

In such a situation, the members of the new Board of Directors of Exim Bank sat in a meeting with the Governor of Bangladesh Bank. They highlighted various problems of the bank to the governor. Want liquidity support.

Bangladesh Bank formed the new board of Exim Bank on 29th August last. Although one and a half months have already passed, they have not been able to reveal the information about the aggressive loan distribution and debt collection of the former council.

Chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder withdrew about 1.5 thousand crore taka from Exim Bank anonymously at the end of July.


Meanwhile, a murder case was filed against former chairman of the bank and former president of Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) Nazrul Islam Majumder at Jatrabari police station for opposing the anti-discrimination student movement. He was arrested and sent to jail in that case.

After the fall of the government on August 5, many entrepreneurs of the banking sector, like Awami League leaders, went into hiding. Nazrul Islam Majumdar also did not appear publicly since that time. As part of changes in the banking sector in the change of power, on August 29, Exim Bank removed him and formed a new board of directors. He also lost the leadership of BAB.

Through this, after 17 years, the board of the Shariah-based bank came out of Nazrul Islam's circle.

Nazrul Islam was the Chairman of Exim Bank since 2007. And he was the chairman of BAB since 2009.

Distressed Padma Bank entered into an agreement to merge with Shariah-based Exim Bank on March 18 this year. In the presence of the then Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Abdur Rauf Talukder, along with the officials, entrepreneurs of the two banks were also present.
