International Desk: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not go to Pakistan to attend the 23rd Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Foreign Minister Subrahmanam Jaishankar is attending the conference in his place. This information is known from the report of Indian media India Today.

Subrahmanam Jaishankar

The 23rd summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is starting today in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The Prime Ministers of the member countries are participating in it, but the Prime Minister of India is not participating. The conference is being held under tight security. Due to security concerns, tight security arrangements have been made in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to the report of India Today, the Indian Foreign Minister has landed in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, to attend this conference on Tuesday. After 9 long years, an Indian foreign minister visited Pakistan. Whether he will have a bilateral meeting with the Pakistani leaders during this visit or whether the Pakistani leadership has shown interest in a bilateral meeting, it has not yet been decided. Late Sushma Swaraj, the last foreign minister of India, visited Pakistan in 2015.

Earlier, arch-enemy Pakistan invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Islamabad in late August. Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch confirmed the matter at the weekly press briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At that time he said, 'An invitation has also been sent to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.'

Sushma Swaraj was the last Indian foreign minister to visit Pakistan. He visited Pakistan in 2015. Analysts say that India-Pakistan relations are unlikely to improve in the current situation. Because, Pakistan wants India to withdraw the decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

At that time, India said that there is nothing left to discuss with Pakistan on this issue except the occupation of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Incidentally, the SCO is perhaps the only multilateral forum where India and Pakistan have been able to work together despite their enmity. Both India and Pakistan are full members of the group led by Russia and China.
