Jumbangla Desk: Advocate Omar Farooq Farooqui has been appointed as Public Prosecutor (PP) in Dhaka Metropolitan and Sessions Court. Altogether 669 lawyers have been appointed as PP, GP, APP and AGP in Dhaka District and Sessions Judge Court, CMM Court and various tribunals.

The Solicitor Division (GP-PP Branch) of the Ministry of Law released the recruitment notification on Monday (October 15) night. Sub-solicitor of the department Sana Md. Mahroof Hossain signed it.

According to the notification, lawyer Iqbal Hossain has been appointed as the Chief Counsel (PP) of the Dhaka District Judge Court. And lawyer Omar Farooqui has been appointed as the chief counsel of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court. Advocate Abul Khair has been appointed as the chief GP of this court.

It is said that, subject to the report of District and Sessions Judge and District Magistrate of Dhaka District, this appointment has been made under the powers given in Section 492 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and Rule 17 of Section 9 and 6 of Section 1 of Chapter 2 of the LR (Legal Remembrancers) Manual of 1960.

It is also said that through this appointment, the appointment of those who were appointed earlier in these positions has been cancelled. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5, judicial proceedings stalled due to the absence of lawyers for the state in Dhaka's judicial court. In this situation, the interim government appointed 669 lawyers to the state.
